Career Highlights

Judy Adams  professional career spans more than 40 years in music programming, live radio production and management, garnering more than forty (40) awards for program excellence.

Having worked at Detroit’s radio power houses, WXYX (ABC), WVMV (CBS),WWWW, and WRIF (ABC), she made her mark at WDET, Detroit Public Radio. As program director and prime time host for over 30 years, she is credited with designing their signature eclectic music format; inspired by her daily show “Morphogenesis” which  creatively blended genres giving people an understanding of the harmonious interconnections between cultures and artistic expression.  She also utilized innovative programming techniques resulting in high levels of audience satisfaction and loyalty. Under her creative direction the station saw a 400% increase in audience and revenue and was consistently voted Best Radio Station in annual media polls, etc.

Some artists she has interviewed for her programs include Herbie Hancock, George Clinton, Philip Glass, Sun Ra, Pat Metheny, Allen Ginsberg, Smokey Robinson & Dizzy Gillespie just to name a few. See interview list below. She has written about contemporary music for Creem magazine and was one of their founding editors.

Adams is currently producing a “world jazz” music program for CJAM-FM, Windsor, Ontario. She draws from the experience of having produced over 7,500 programs in her career.

She is also producer and host of the “Jazz Cafe Discovery Series” at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Detroit, Mi.
